LEGENDEN RADSPORT FRAUEN QUARTETT

The highly recommended Legenden Quartet collection has released two more cycling decks in 2024, one of which is dedicated to women cycling. Since it is still unusual to find women cycling represented in games, I have chosen to present this game independently from the rest of the series.

Of course, that is still a game of the "high values"/"happy families" family (you can play both games), in which 40 cycling legends are grouped (roughly by countries), each quartet being illustrated by a different hand.


 

The illustrators in this deck are Sarah Weishaupt, Solange Ehrler, Yasmin König, Rebecca Metz, Eva Jane Wottreng, Irina Feller, Johanna Lee Glover, Jenya Hitz, Fabienne Paul, and Anna-Lisa Schneeberger. All of them women themselves, naturally.

 

While the three man cycling decks in this collection can be mixed into a single one to play an oversized "high values game", the women's deck cannot be added to that mix since it features different categories. Here the categories are: Classics, Stage Races (GC), Stage Races (Stages), Worlds Medals (four different values: route, time trial, track, and altogether), rainbow jerseis, and Olympic wins. That is, nine different categories to choose from, if there is not any hidden one that I might have missed.

 

Furthermore, if you are going to play "high values" with this deck, you will have to leave the last quartet out, as some things cannot be compared. However, as I said a few years ago when I reviewed the first male deck in this series, the main value of these decks is not as playable games (which of course they are) but as collectable items (which cannot be said to be true of all games).
